She's an Earth sprite, and our lead character. She lives alone with her father, who is a farmer. Her mother is usually taking care of a sick sister. With her mother always away, Kashu usually has to deal with taking care of the house, and as a result, she's good at cleaning and cooking. She's one of the few earth sprites who don't belittle Water sprites, and is very against the prejudices made against them. Though she always appears to be spacing out, she's actually very intuitive and good at seeing peoples' true nature.
Kashu absolutely can not turn down an opportunity to feed people. She spends 80% of her free time in the kitchen.
Amira Bellerose
(Pronounced "ah my ruh" "bell rohz")
Name meaning: Amira is an alternate spelling of Amirah, the feminine form of Amir, which means "commander" or "prince". This strange coincidence was actually totally accidental... I just picked the name without knowing what it meant, and it turned out to be eerily fitting... I believe bellerose is French for "beautiful rose".

She is an Air sprite. She is very small and looks as though she would be a sweet, innocent child, but she actually speaks a lot like a cynical adult. Amira functions as somewhat of a 'straight man' for her much more wild and childish friend, Jaseph. Despite her prissiness, she frequently goes over to his house to play pretend.
Lilian Piccoli
(Pronounced "lihl ee ehn" "pih cole ee")
Name meaning: Comes from "lily", which is a pond plant. Since she comes from the water... well, you get it.

A Water sprite. Becomes friends with Kashu after Kashu saved her from being stuck on a blade of grass. Like the other Water sprites, she can't return to her home in the river (and she's also been separated from her parents), so she ends up living with Kashu. Despite being younger than Kashu, she's considerably more organized. She can be uptight and stingy, but deep down, she just wants the best for the people she's close to.
She avoids leaving the house out of fear of the rest of the Earth sprites in the village.
As a Water sprite, she has gills on her neck and webbed fingers, almost no nose/toes, and she can breath underwater.
Ryan Dahl
(Pronounced "rye ahn")
Name meaning: "Little king"; I picked it just because I always liked the name, ehehe.

Ryan has a mysterious past that he tries to avoid talking about. It seems he's been traveling the a majority of his life. Though he's pensive and nervous around strangers, he gradually warms up to Kashu and her gang. He says he can only stay in their village temporarily.
Gingerbread Mathias
(Pronounced "maahth ee ahs")
Name meaning: Gingerbread... as in... the food. Hey, he's sweet like gingerbread. =P Mathias comes from Matthew, meaning "gift of God."

Half Earth, half Air. Because of his air blood, Gingerbread is very short and light weight. With the heart and curious naivete of a child, he is often mistaken for being much younger than his age... or worse, the opposite gender. Amira frequently harps on him for looking like a girl, much to his despair. Gingerbread likes to earn everyone's attention, but he has very few natural talents, so he usually ends up getting attention... when he messes up.
He has a huge crush on Cocoa (to which she is oblivious), which causes a lot of contention between he and his fellow gang member, Dustin. Due to Gingerbread being somewhat dense, he often falls for Dustin's pranks.

Name meaning: Cocoa... as in... the drink. I came up with a lot of these names without thinking about them... -sheepish smile- Romana is the feminine form of a name meaning "roman". No real meaning.

Cocoa, an Earth sprite, is usually cheerful but with a rather weird sense of humor. Though she appears to be a normal big sister-figure, she can also say random and confusing things. She's completely unaware of Dustin and Gingerbread bickering for her affections all the time.
She plays a flute-like instrument.
Bright colors or lights hurt her eyes since she doesn't visit the "upper grounds" very often.
Dustin Andor

Name meaning: From a name meaning "stone of Thor". Err, this is another meaningless name I picked just because I liked how it sounded. Andor means "eagle."

Dustin, the self proclaimed leader of the Tunnel Diggers, has loved digging and constructing underground since childhood. Teaming up with his two best friends, Gingerbread and Cocoa, the group helps build up their underground community. He's good-natured, but gets jealous easily and might be a little insecure. Gingerbread is his rival for Cocoa's affections, so most of his pranks and tricks are aimed at the poor boy, but deep down, he cares about him like a little brother.
Jaseph Fotios
Name meaning: "Jaseph" was just me combining "James" and "Joseph." Fotios comes from a name meaning "light".

Name meaning: Means "born of the sea". Muirgen is a water sprite, so...

Muirgen is an energetic Water sprite who gets ridiculous ideas in her head and insists on acting upon them. Once she's set her mind to someone, she won't let anyone stop her. But despite this stubbornness, she's actually well-meaning and is always quick to apologize for her mistakes. She doesn't show up until later on in the story.

Name meaning: "A boom or noisy disturbance." Originally "Paladin", because my dad reeeeeally wanted me to use that name, but it felt like naming him "soldier", so I changed it.
